For five generations, the C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home has been serving the town of Ridgewood and its surrounding communities with dignity and compassion.

In 1895, J.D. Van Emburgh and Hervey Terhune established their business at the southwest corner of Ridgewood and Maple Avenues under the name VanEmburgh & Terhune. In 1905 J.D. acquired the business soley and relocated across the street, the present site, and incorporated under the name J.D.Van Emburgh Inc.

Our founder

With the death of J.D. in 1929, his eldest son Clarence C. changed the name to C.C.Van Emburgh, Inc. Under his direction, the business grew steadily until it ranked as one of the leading funeral homes in the state.

C.C.Van Emburgh Staff

The third generation, Clarence (Sonny) Van Emburgh,  carried on the firm's tradition of unsurpassed service & dedication until his untimely death at age 54 in 1971. It was at this time that his son Dirk joined the business, with Dirk's sister Marcy Van Emburgh Sigler (Sonny's eldest daughter) coming on in 1978.

In 1991, Marcy's son, David, became the fifth generation to enter the funeral business.
