Thoughts from Joscelyn Scarpello
February 4, 2010
Mr. Loccke was not only a teacher to me. He was a friend, a mentor, and someone I could go to when I needed to just talk or vent about something. He was by far the best teacher I have ever had. There are so many stories I could share with his loved ones, but this is by far my favorite. In 6th grade I gave him a spider plant. He told me that everything in this classroom doesn’t survive the year. So another classmate and I helped him take care of the spider plant all year. We had a time during the day that we watered the plant. When the year had ended we bragged to him how the plant had survived. Every year before he retired I would go back to his classroom and visit him either after school or during a free period to see how he was and our plant. I was probably the happiest person in the school when he started substituting. I just happened to pass a classroom and there he was, I had to run in and say hi. He was such a caring, patient, and amazing person. He definitely helped me through some tough times in my life, especially in 6th grade. He will be forever in my heart. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family and anyone who was blessed enough to know him.
