Livingstone, Jane Margaret (nee Krieger) 85, passed away after a short illness December 7, 2011 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, New Jersey. Visitation will be 2-4 pm Sunday, December 11 at the C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood, New Jersey, with a service following at 4 pm.
Born January 16, 1926 at home in Paterson, New Jersey, she was the beloved only child of Jane Buick Krieger (nee Young) and James Krieger (b. Johannes Krijger). As a child, she spent many summers in Ocean Grove, New Jersey, and in 1928 won top prize in the Baby Parade on the Asbury Park Boardwalk. She was an accomplished pianist in high school and later in life enjoyed playing her home organ for friends and family.
Jane graduated from Eastside High School in Paterson where she was elected vice-president of her class. On September 7, 1946, she married Edward Livingstone, president of their high school class. Jane graduated from secretarial school and then worked at NBC headquarters in Rockefeller Center for several years. After marriage, Jane and Ed lived in Springfield, Massachusetts, and then moved back to New Jersey where they lived in Plainfield, Ridgewood, Ho-Ho-Kus and finally Ocean Grove. She was baptized at the Broadway Baptist Church in Paterson, and later was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Ridgewood and St. Paul's Methodist Church in Ocean Grove.
Jane was a Worthy Advisor of the Rainbow Girls and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She served as the first PTA president for Hawes School in Ridgewood, and worked for many years in Ridgewood as a real estate agent, bookkeeper, and office manager for Puritz and Associates. After her retirement, she moved to Ocean Grove, New Jersey where she was active in the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Great Auditorium. She loved the ocean, dancing, bowling, crafts, crossword puzzles, card games, Scrabble, and traveling.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents and husband; she leaves her three children and their spouses, James (Carol Ann) of Fair Lawn, New Jersey; Carol (Daniel Grayson) of Urbana, Illinois; and Bob (Maggie) of Ho-Ho-Kus, New Jersey. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to donate to the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Ocean Grove Auditorium, to the Ocean Grove Fire Department First Aid Squad, or to an organization of the donor's choice. Arrangements by CC Van Emburgh, Ridgewood. For online condolences visit www.vanemburgh.co.
